The buttons at the top of the left-hand toolbar, the most commonly used, are shown below, with their names:Ĭlick the Single Bond button, and then click on the blank space. The toolbar at the top opens templates to insert pre-drawn molecules such as cyclohexane and aromatic rings. You should be presented with a blank page, with two toolbars: One toolbar, on the left, contains buttons for drawing and viewing molecules.

(If the AutoNom installer detects an old version, it will ask you if you want to proceed. This add-in allows you to name structures you draw, and is discussed below under F. If you do obtain the program, you may also get the following two optional files: As noted at the top of this section, the program is no longer available. It seems to not work properly, and we ignore it here.)Ī 3D view of folic acid, made from the ISIS/Draw structure shown above. (Isis/Draw has a menu item called "View molecule in RasMol". Instructions for exporting structures for 3D viewing are given on the RasMol page see "Method 2" there. You can use it to draw chemical structures, and export them for viewing as 3D models. This is an introduction to ISIS/Draw, a program from MDL that is free for non-commercial use.
